FAQ’S
Is my bill correct? It seems high
There are several reasons why a bill might seem high.
First, consider weather conditions that might have caused an increase. Over the hotter parts of the summer and colder parts of the winter, energy consumption rises dramatically with the use of heating and cooling systems.
Secondly, examine possible equipment problems. Culprits include leaks from faucets, pipes or the water heater; heating and cooling system problems such as leaking ductwork, compressor malfunctions, a system low in coolant, or a system that is heating and cooling simultaneously.
If you’ve checked these items and continue to have an issue, please contact our Utilities Department.
What is the Power Cost Adjustment on My Bill?
The Power Cost Adjustment on your City of Starke Utility Bill reflects the increases/decreases in the utility’s cost of power purchased wholesale from the Florida Municipal Power Association. The fluctuation in the Power Cost Adjustment is largely caused by changes in the cost of fuel for generation.
How is the Power Cost Adjustment Calculated?
Each month’s Power Cost Adjustment is established on the first billing day after management’s review of FMPA’s latest billing and projected power costs for the month.
The Power Cost Adjustment on an electric bill statement is computed by multiplying the amount charged or credited by the number of kilowatt hours used. For example, if the amount charged is .03540, and 1000 kWh was used during the billing period, the Power Cost Adjustment would be a charge of $35.40.
